The World of Pentameron

YIRAHADRIA—northernmost country of Pentameron known for its military advancement, dazzling opulence, lush farmlands, and thriving trade capitol of Thruvaria with its crystalline spires and layered metropolitan city sectors. The country stands, as it has for so many centuries of its history, at the center of a great, continental and provincial divide. Even as internal strife within the rapidly globalizing confederacy of Yirahadria combined with a growing cultural divide threaten to bring the country to civil war, the threat of invasion by the pagan Taneeso gradually creeps upon the southern borders.

In this rising tide of fear, lawlessness, and brutal violence, local governments are far too gratified with personal security and busied with internecine bureaucratic power struggles to take heed of these new foreign and domestic threats. Therefore, the common civilian populations, along with the clan governments of their western neighbors in Kotamokia, are largely left at the mercy of invading hordes.

With the exposure of the civilian populations to rapine and slaughter, the intergovernmental mercenary class of the lornerblaun has become more in demand than ever before. These mercenaries not only serve as the lone barrier between civilian populations and the invaders, but act as a form of paid law enforcement to protect their rights and properties now that their governments have largely abandoned them.

One such mercenary, however, stands apart from the rank and file. This man is Fereya—a mute mercenary of mysterious lineage whose devout adherence to a fading code of chivalry is only matched by his inhuman skill, might, and savagery in the field of battle. He will take no man’s money dishonestly and suffer no man’s cruelty without due and furious revenge.

Yet more peculiar than this savage knight errant is his choice of companion—a petite, urchin girl named Mirsa to whom he’s sworn his sword in defense. Together they wander the land offering service to any in need and serving each other as protector and mouthpiece respectively.
